Children of Men

We were born just like your children.
We crawled, we walked, and drooled.
We pooped, screamed, and cried;
Just like all children do.
We went to school to learn.
We played games in imaginary worlds.
We all felt a little shy around pretty girls.
We played with your children.
We happily became friends,
We were children blind of hate, and the color of skin.
However, when you, their parent, first met us,
You chose not to see us as children of men.

You didn't want us to date your daughter.
You told your son not to be our friend.
You treated us as an infirmity.
You claimed we were the children of vicious men.
You ignore cops beating us for our looks.
You ignore racist shooting at us in the streets.
You support all the illicit stereotypes,
And gleefully reaffirm them to everyone you meet.
To you all black men are criminals.
We are what you call a thug or a jiggaboo.
You see us as violent and barbaric.
We are simply savages through and through.
You willfully ignore our education.
You tell your daughters, "They don't love like men!"
You say, "Nigger's can never give you what you need!"
You sour her to the color of our skin.
Some of you disown your daughters and our children.
You tell lies and curse us daily to your racist friends.
You say, " She married a thug or a worthless nigger!"
You choose to ignore that we are hard-working loving men.
We are tired of watching your racist bonfires.
We are tired of watching you twist others with your lies.
We are tired of our family and brothers being abused.
We will no longer be victimized, while you enjoy our cries.
We are children of men!
We were raised in prosperous and loving homes.
Your lies and whispers about black inferiority,
Will be ignored as we teach our children to be confident and strong.
We will continue to hold on to our humanity.
We will teach our shared family to strive for a blessed day,
When the racist hateful shadows of our family will wither,
And the light of understanding will finally find its way.
Our boys will know they are sons of men.
They will not care about race or inherited skin.
They will see themselves as our children.
Skin-tone will not determine who is and isn't their kin.
